Title: Global Amphibian Conservation

Phil Bishop
PhD,
Director, Ecology Degree Programme, Department of Zoology , University of Otago

After completing his PhD in frog acoustic communication in South Africa Phil Bishop moved to New Zealand to study the communication in the ancient lineage of anurans (Leiopelma spp.). As more and more declining amphibian populations were being discovered he soon turned his attention to frog conservation. He has over 80 publications and is a Professor of Zoology and Director of Ecology at New Zealand‘s oldest and most prestigious university. He is the lead author on the New Zealand Native Frog Recovery Plan and has been actively involved in their conservation for many years. The global amphibian community recognised the need for an Amphibian Survival Alliance (ASA) and with the backing of the IUCN the ASA was established in 2011. Phil was appointed as the ASA’s Chief Scientist and is currently the Co-Chair of the IUCN Amphibian Specialist Group. In addition, he is on the Executive Committee of the IUCN Amphibian Ark and therefore plays a key role in global amphibian conservation.

Title: Photography and story as tools to change perceptions and inspire conservation action

Robin Moore

PhD, Director of Communications, Global Wildlife Conservation

Dr. Robin Moore is an amphibian conservationist with the Amphibian Survival Alliance, a Senior Fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers and author of In Search of Lost Frogs: the quest to find the world's rarest amphibians. Since entering the jungles of West Africa at the tender age of 20 to study chameleons, Robin has dedicated himself to protecting, and engaging others in the protection of, amphibians and reptiles through campaigns and initiatives including the Search for Lost Frogs, Metamorphosis, and Frame of Mind. Robin will discuss how he has used photography and storytelling to engage a broad audience in the protection of these often maligned creatures.

Title: Leaping Forward into Nature Tourism with Bornean Frogs

Kelvin Kueh Boon Hee
Lecturer/Researcher, Institute for Tropical Biology and Conservation, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Jalan UMS, 88400 Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

I'm a field herpetologist (batrachologist), and I have a passion for frog natural history and ecology, particularly in Borneo. Also, I am working on the establishment of frogs as bioindicators for rapid and convenient assessment of environmental health, with my colleagues working on freshwater quality and aquatic insects. At the same time, I help tourism authorities at the Federal and State levels in training nature tourist guides, especially in biodiversity (specifically, Bornean frogs) and nature conservation. I have helped the tourism authorities in developing and conducting modules for the Localised Nature Guide Course (LNGC), Region Specific Tourist Guide (RSTG) Course, and Continuing Tourism Related Education (CTRE) Programme. I have collaborated with several local tour companies in Sabah to establish the 'Tabin Frog Camp' (Tabin Wildlife Reserve, Lahad Datu), and 'Bundu Tuhan Frog Camp' (Bundu Tuhan, Kundasang, Ranau). I have graduated two MSc candidates who have worked on nature tourism (one on wildlife tourism, the other on community-based tourism), on top of other MSc candidates, on amphibian ecology. I am currently the Chairperson for the UMS EcoCampus Tourism Committee under the auspices of UMS Chancellery.

Title: Frogs in a Water Cycle

Ramlah Binti Zainudin
Doctor of Philosophy (UKM), MSc (Illinois) Bsc (Hons) U of Malaya; Dean, Centre for Pre-University Studies/Department of Zoology ; Assoc.Prof , Centre for Pre-University Studies/Faculty of Resource Science and Technology

I have made a significant contribution to academia and the advancement of knowledge through more than 28 scientific publications in amphibian diversity, ecology and evolutionary biology. In my field of expertise, I have initiated and develop further interest in phylogenetic studies especially among the postgraduate students of UNIMAS and UKM as I have been actively involved in facilitating them with current DNA technologies and analyses. I was invited as a guest speaker on Bayesian Analysis workshop on Reconstruction of phylogenetic tree organized by UKM on 24 November 2008 and Jabatan Perikanan Terengganu in 2012. The highlight was my involvement as an organizer and speaker for Basic Computational Phylogenetic Analysis Workshop (Windows Platform) that was held in February 2010 for researches and postgraduate students of local university and institutes. I am currently in the process of enhancing my research on the disciplines of amphibian ecology (ecological guilds), behaviour (advertisement calls) molecular genetics such as DNA barcoding and also commercial uses of Bornean frogs such as bioskin and Animal Sound Barcoding. To underline my commitment, I have completed a book on `Croaks of the Bornean frog: The Hylarana of Sarawak' which include all of the above disciplines except for bioskin and sound barcoding. In addition I have was also one of the editors and authors of the book manual on `Basic Computational Phylogenetic Analysis (Windows platform)' to facilitate students on their phylogenetic analyses. In the administrative work, I was appointed as a program Coordinator for Animal Resource Science and Management in 2010 and Deputy Dean of Pre University till 2015 and currently as Dean of Pre University UNIMAS. My future plans also include promoting science to school children by a lifelong program of Learning Science is Fun Series and we have won bronze medal for this effort (Manual with science kits) in UNIMAS Research and Development Expo in April 2012. My recent involvement with school children (Upper Secondary) was with UNESCO in Kem Pemimpin Muda Prihatin Air in August 2015.
